Why should I study this course?

Gain a sound introduction to computing with this work-related course, which is vocationally relevant for the IT industry. You will gain an insight into seven different areas of information technology, studying wide and varied topics that will give you a good grounding across many different units. This is a very practical course that will prepare you to move into the IT sector, and you will also learn about communication and the different roles available in the workplace. Your learning will include a mix of formal lessons, practical workshops, and assignment workshops and an examination.

This course is for you if:

...you would like to move on to study at Advanced Extended Diploma level in IT. You may also find this course useful if you have aspirations to work in the IT industry.

There may be a possibility to study more units to gain an extended certificate once the above units have been completed and time permitting. All students will also study English and Maths as well as completing an Employability Skills Passport by gaining evidence of work experience and work placement.

  • Good creativity and written communication skills

How is it delivered?

You will be taught via a number of different ways including; formal lessons, practical workshops and assignment workshops.

Assessment

Assessment is through completion of internally and externally marked assessments and two examinations. All units are graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction. Please note that the new syllabus may include exams.

Private Study

You will be required to complete coursework in your own time on this course. If you are aiming for higher grades, which you need to move up to level 3, you would be expected to put in 12 - 14 hours per week or more for research, coursework, revision and homework.

What materials will I need?

You will need access to the internet and basic stationery. A USB stick would also be useful for carrying your work with you and making your own backup. You should bring a notebook and pen to all lessons to take notes.

Entry Requirements:

A minimum of two grade Ds at GCSE.
